I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and left school in the early 1980’s. I worked in a series of random jobs and then, for whatever reason in the mid-80’s, I began doing drama classes. From there, I acted in a couple of stage productions and was an extra in a couple of TV shows. I pretty much had a miserable time doing all of these, and so I just packed it all in and enjoyed the rest of the decade, doing what everyone else does when they are young and trying to work out who in the hell they are.

New Year’s Day 1990, I was living and working in London. I did that for a bit, and got my butt right royally kicked for the whole time of it, and so I eventually crawled my way back to Auckland. Then, for whatever reason in the mid-90’s, I returned back to acting again. This time round though, I enjoyed the drama classes, had good experiences in the stage productions, and so I kept with it, going on to act in three stage productions, four TV commercials, one TV sketch comedy show, three TV dramas, and one movie.

Then, during one stage production, I got a throat infection from eating something I had to as part of the play, and unbelievably, because of it, I lost my voice. Even more unbelievably, I lost my voice for the next flippin’ 1½ years. Unable to speak anymore, I took up writing, and this is some of the things I’ve managed to do since then – in between working in mundane and desperate I need to bring in some money jobs, getting myself into weird relationships, and surviving many other disturbances and annoyances which Life revels in regularly throwing one’s way.
